Spring Clean Up Tips for Your Kitchen

Posted on March 1st, 2022

Spring is a time for fresh, new beginnings. A freshly cleaned kitchen is the perfect way to welcome the new season. Spring cleaning typically involves a deeper clean than your weekly scrub-down. Follow these steps to Spring clean your kitchen this week.

Do A Quick Clean of Your Kitchen First
Spring cleaning your kitchen requires some space to sort through your items, such as your countertops and floors, so you’ll want to do a quick clean-through before starting. Do a load of dishes, put up clutter from the countertops, wipe down your countertops, and vacuum your floors.

Organize Your Drawer
Kitchen drawers can easily attract crumbs, liquids spilled over from the countertops, and the odd-item you’re not sure where else to put. Empty out each drawer onto your countertops, vacuum up any crumbs and wipe down any drawer organizers. With all of your items laid out on the countertops, reorganize your drawers by type; junk drawer, silverware, large utensils, tools, etc. Place items back and wipe down drawer fronts and knobs.

Empty Your Cupboards
Over time, your cupboards collect items you may not use often or at all (or somehow only contain unmatching Tupperware) that just take up space. No better time than Spring to take stock of the items you actually use and the ones you don’t. Start by emptying your lower cabinets and lay the contents on the countertops or floor. Grab a box for items that can be donated, a box for items that can need to go into storage for this season, and a trash can for items that need to be tossed out. Go through your items and prioritize them as necessary. Before placing back, take the opportunity to wipe down your cupboard shelves, replace any tattered shelf lining, wipe down cabinet fronts and knobs with a wet rage and mild soap, and clean glass-front doors. Then do the same with your upper cabinets.

Clean Out Your Pantry
The pantry is a great place to store extra food items, cooking staples, kitchen gadgets, and large dishware. Pull out all your items, trash any expired or inedible foods, and donate any unopened food you no longer want. Save space and keep your pantry foods fresher for longer by transferring them to jars or containers, combining half-used containers. Wipe down the shelves with a wet cloth and mild soap, clean organizers, and place items back neatly. Then wipe down your pantry door and knob.

Tackle Those Countertops
Now that your cupboards and pantry are organized and sparkling clean, it’s time to take on those countertops. Start with your utensil jar by emptying, cleaning, sorting, and replacing utensils. Then move on to small appliances, such as dumping out the toaster crumb tray, running your coffee pot through the dishwasher, and cleaning out your microwave. Wipe down your appliances, knife block, and clean out your fruit bowl. Lastly, wipe down your backsplash and countertops.

Clean Out Your Major Appliances
Finally, it’s time to clean out your large appliances. Check the bottom of your dishwasher’s drain to remove any foods or other obstructions. Wipe down your cooktop and clean any removable knobs or burner pans. Run either a steam clean or clean cycle on your oven and wipe down any excessive foods. Wipe down your fridge’s exterior, remove your items by shelf to wipe down shelves to toss any expired or old foods in both the refrigerator and freezer compartment.

Now that your kitchen is ready for Spring, kick back and enjoy the warm weather!
