Matt Simms is a dedicated kitchen and home designer with a deep-rooted passion for the built environment, inspired by his family and early experiences in home improvement. Married to his wife Tracy and father to their four-year-old daughter Ellie, Matt finds motivation in his family both in his professional pursuits and personal life. Growing up in Cottage City, a suburb of Washington, DC, Matt was surrounded by a variety of architectural styles, from Cape Cod to colonial homes built between the 1920s and 1960s. This environment fostered his appreciation for traditional and transitional styles, which he seamlessly integrates into his designs. His interest in home improvement began early, installing his first kitchen at the age of 12, and continued through his education in drafting at DeMatha High School and architecture at the University of Maryland.
Matt's approach to design is client-focused, emphasizing the importance of listening to understand the needs and desires of his clients. He believes that even if clients are unsure of what they want, asking the right questions about how they intend to use the space can reveal crucial insights. This collaborative process ensures that each project is tailored to the client's lifestyle and preferences, resulting in designs that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
One of Matt's strengths is his ability to balance practical considerations with creative solutions. He works closely with clients to develop a priority list, addressing essential storage and functional needs while adhering to budget constraints. His goal is to create a cohesive design that clients will enjoy for years to come, adding value to their homes both in daily use and resale potential.

He finds great satisfaction in helping clients realize their visions and witnessing their happiness and contentment with the completed space. His commitment to staying current with industry trends is reflected in his regular engagement with kitchen and bath publications, attendance at home and bath shows, and keen observations of design elements in various environments.
With a personal affinity for the Arts and Crafts movement, Stickley shaker styles, and the simplicity of European modern design, Matt brings a unique blend of traditional and contemporary influences to his work.
