Not designed well. Our neighbor was helping me cook, grabbed the micro handle and received 2nd degree burns needing medical attention. Her insurance company is suing our homeowners for damages. She is recovering but it's painful. We were boiling a 2qt pot on the burner underneath, fully covering the gas burner and the unit is installed per EXACT specs above the range. The pot of water wasn't even boiling yet but the handle was ridiculously/dangerously hot. Our babysitter was also burned but not as badly. This microwave itself is underwhelming. Doesn't cook quickly and lacks power/wattage. My 10 year old Westinghouse countertop model at the cabin cooks twice as fast and with better results. The lopsided baking/roasting of the convection feature makes it more of a warmer than an oven. My toaster oven does a better job baking. I would never use it to bake anything I cared about. Too uneven. The controls are ridiculously stupid. Not designed by a cook for a cook. Simple microwave functions are fine but it takes 4-6 button pushes to get to the manual setting fo the oven. The presets are for refrigerator biscuits, two kinds of rolls, bread, pizza and quiche and you have to scroll a little to get to the manual feature. Someone using this sophisticated of an appliance doesn't want stupid pre-sets. Lastly, the exhaust fan is as loud as a Harley in the kitchen. It has 6 speeds, seriously? Who needs anything more than high and low! I don't want to press the button 6 times to turn the fan off. The fan automatically turns on when it senses something cooking below and gets warm. It doesn't cool the handle at all. And you can't override it. Ours is internally exhausted and isn't working well for us. I'm looking to replace it with a hood and find a better, safer microwave. I've added video of the fan. Maybe not super helpful but it's something I wish I would have known before purchasing. I would have considered a small under counter microwave and a vent hood.

Great product. You can feel the quality as soon as you open the door. Sturdy, heavy duty with stainless interior. Works like a champ.

I bought this instead of a Samsung, which would've matched my other kitchen appliances, but thought Kitchenaid was a better product. I find the controls to cumbersome because you have to go through a series of steps in order to select which feature you want to use. It's not intuitive, in fact I wish they offered a class to educate me on how to use it. I'm having to do trial and error, which is completely a waste of time. I made cookies in it last night. They don't cook evenly. The back left corner of the oven is hotter than the front right, so in every batch of cookies, there were some burned, and some not cooked enough/raw inside. I'm very disappointed in Kitchenaid. I might have to return this for a different one.

Our previous microwave bit the dust. After looking at all the built in microwave convection ovens we chose the 1000 watt because of the features, easy to operate controls and the built in hood and light. We've had this unit for over a month and we've been happy with the results of the food we've cooked, defrosted, and the reheated!
