Model #KODE500EWH02 Serial #D64714898 Purchased May 2017 The blue interior finish in the two ovens are cracking, flaking and coming off. As shown in the attached photo, some pieces have a width of about the diameter of one dime, and some pieces have a width of about the diameter of two to four dimes. The pieces that I have discovered so far have all come from the front lip area of the interior cavity, near the edges. Both the top and bottom ovens are showing the exact same problem in the exact same location. There may be additional areas of cracking/flaking, but I do not want to damage the oven by testing other sections of the interior finish. It is clear from a close up inspection of the front lips that there is a weakness in the interior finish, and that additional areas will likely crack/flake off. The front lips of the two ovens are not an area that needs to be cleaned, nor is this an area that is touched during placement of food dishes on the racks in the oven. Thus, this portion of the ovens was never touched during use. Also, neither of the ovens have yet been run through a self-cleaning cycle which results in high heat. Of course, the ovens are presumably designed to handle the heat associated with this cycle, but I am mentioning this fact anyway. Since purchase, the ovens are used only a few times per week for normal baking and cooking. These ovens have a convection feature that circulates air throughout the oven. The convection feature cannot be used because pieces of the interior finish may become lodged in the food containers. Thus, this is not merely a cosmetic issue. Furthermore, now that there are large surface areas of the oven that are not protected by the interior finish, I am concerned that the ovens may become damaged during normal use. I called Kitchenaid Customer Service at 866-524-3852 and was told by Brandy that Kitchenaid cannot provide any assistance because the one year parts and labor warranty is expired. I registered the oven with Kitchenaid upon purchase so they were able to locate the initial registration, but then Brandy simply confirmed that this issue fell within the one year parts and labor warranty. The ovens were professionally installed by our kitchen renovation contractor, but they have no responsibility for the defective ovens, and nothing related to the installation would have damaged this part of the ovens since the ovens came fully assembled. Brandy at Kitchenaid referred me to their factory-authorized repair service that covers my location, which is “Quaker City Factory Service” (215-455-4700), and offered to arrange for a service call at a cost of $105 that I would have to prepay. Brandy at Kitchenaid did not know whether a problem like this is fixable. She was not aware of any solution to fixing the problem. She also suggested that I call Quaker City directly to speak to them about the problem. I declined the service call option. I called Quaker City Factory Service last week and explained the problem to their service technician. The service technician informed me that there is no repairable solution to this problem, so there is no point in setting up a service call. He said that there is a heat resistant paint marker that can cosmetically touch up oven liners, but this would not provide a solution to the problem, and would not prevent additional areas from flaking off. The problem with this double oven is clearly the result of a defect in materials and workmanship that existed when the appliance was purchased, and thus is covered under Kitchenaid’s First Year Limited Warranty. However, since that time window has expired, we are out of luck. No more Kitchenaid products for us, ever!

I find this double oven needs 15 minutes to heat to the correct temperature. Therefore I bought a counter top toaster oven and use it most of the time. Also the corners bake quicker than the middle.

We had a Kitchenaide oven for 22 years and it finally went out. I wanted another oven I could depend on. The oven looks great! The middle racks glide out, and the features are easy to use. It has everything I wanted. Love it so far. I hope it lasts as long as the other one did.
