Add Softness In The Kitchen With Upholstery

Posted on Mar 23, 2020

Kitchens require a lot of smooth, hard surfaces to easily clean up messes. However, this can make a kitchen can sometimes feel like a harsh place to be. Here are some ways you can add soft touches of comfort to your kitchen through upholstery.

Rugs

Hardwood and tile floors are great options for smooth surfaces that are easy to clean and sanitize messes on your floors. However, it can also be non-supportive for your feet and back, especially when you spend a lot of hours working in the kitchen. Provide a soft, cushiony flooring through a supportive mat and rug. There are washable options you can quickly toss into the washer to wash and sanitize.

Add Style

While we always recommend bringing in as much natural light into the kitchen, we also love the option of being able to reduce sun glare during certain parts of the day and having privacy at night. With window curtains, you can not only achieve these things - you can also add texture, pops of color, and sophisticated patterns that integrate well with other palettes throughout your kitchen.

Lighting

One way to add fabrics to your kitchen is through your lighting. Add upholstered lighting or light shades to your existing pendants. Although we don’t recommend this over a cooktop or range for the sake of grease and splatters, this can be a great option for lighting over kitchen islands and bars. Choose dark fabrics to set a dim, relaxing ambiance or choose lighter fabrics to create soft, bright lighting.

Island Seating

Kitchen islands provide a place for guests young and old to be a part of the kitchen action. From kids completing schoolwork before dinnertime to dinner party guests snacking on appetizers while you put the finishing touches on dinner, island seating provides ample seating that brings everyone together in the heart of the home. Instead of offering hard, metal or plastic stools that will practically cut off the circulation to the legs, offer a cushiony, fabric seat people can be comfortable in. If you’re worried about potential messes ruining your island seating upholstery, opt for stain-resistant or washable fabrics.

Dining Room Seating

Dining Chairs Upholstered dining chairs offer comfortable seating during meals. If your kitchen opens right into your dining room, you can add a soft touch of fabric through your dining room chairs. Add an extra look of luxury by choosing more grandeur seating for the heads of the table. Of course, it may seem counterintuitive to have fabric where you eat with the potential of spills, so opt for chair covers over your cushioned seating that you can toss in the washer after meals.
