Bosch 300 vs. Bosch 500 Series

Posted on Feb 25th, 2021

If you’re in the market for a new dishwasher, Bosch is an excellent option. Bosch has been a top-selling brand for dishwashers for decades now. These dishwashers are known for their quality performance and quiet operation. In fact, they are so quiet, you actually need a light to tell you it’s even on! Just like a car manufacturer offers a model at different trim levels, Bosch offers 5 different series, starting from budget-friendly to high-end: 100 series, 300 series, 500 series, 800 series, & Benchmark. If you’re looking for that mid-range dishwasher that has some features but won’t break the bank, somewhere in the 300 & 500 series is a great range for you. But what are the differences between these two series? Here we review what’s the same and what you’ll get when you upgrade.

What's The Same?
First we compare what similarities these series provide. Both Bosch dishwashers series provide plenty of features to get your dishes clean in a timely manner. They also feature PrecisionWash™ which uses intelligent sensors to continually scan and check the progress of your dishes through the wash cycle while precision spray arms get to work targeting every item. Both models feature a 24-hour delay start timer so you can run your dishwasher at off-peak times. You will also get the Rackmatic® rack, an adjustable upper rack that has 3 height adjustments and up to 9 different rack positions, and an interior stainless steel tub that helps with maintaining high temperatures and drying, and AquaStop® leak protection to prevent any leaks. They both have the LED remaining time light that shines on the floor so you can know how long your cycle has until it is finished.

What's Different?
The 500 series is a step up from the 300 series so generally speaking, it naturally has more features. The 500 series has the InfoLight® to let you know the cycle is still going and has a rating of 44dBA whereas the 300 series has a rating of 44dBA. As for wash cycles and settings, the 500 series features an Express Wash for a 30-minute load, the Sanitize option to eliminate bacteria and enhance drying results, ExtraShine® option that enhances shine. The 500 Series also features the third rack which provides around 30% more loading capacity compared to dishwashers with only 2 racks. For smaller loads, you can run a true half-load to reduce waste with the 500 series. The 500 series can hold up to 16 place settings while the 300 series holds up to 15.

It's important to note that some models from the 300 series include a handful of the features from the 500 series, while other models include the others. For example, the SHX53T55UC has an InfoLight® but 46dBA, while the SHEM63W55N from the same series has no InfoLight® but a rating of 44dBA.
