Is it getting time to replace your oven? Sometimes it can be difficult to know for sure. Maybe your foods are taking longer to cook or are suddenly cooking unevenly. Or perhaps your oven is really old or is starting to rust on the inside. Here are some signs it’s time to replace your oven.
The oven door features two panes of glass for insulation to keep the heat in. While an oven with one of the panes cracked may still technically be able to function, it will not function well as heat will be able to escape causing your foods to take even longer to cook. The glass can also become very hot to the touch causing an injury.
As ovens age, regular use and baked-on messes can cause damage to the oven lining, making it susceptible to damage. Trapped moisture from baking can cause rusting to start happening. This rust makes the metal weak and eventually crumble and get into your dishes.
An oven that has been ignored can pile on baked-on messes that become nearly impossible to remove. These messes cook over and over every time you use your oven and can cause your foods to come out tasting strange. The clean cycle on older ovens requires you to heat up the oven’s interior to a high enough temperature that can burn off the messes which can cause additional stress to the oven and smoke damage to your home. If you’ve tried the clean cycle and there is still a mess inside your oven, it’s time for a new oven.
Whether it’s the above damage or your oven has quit working due to an element or electrical problem, the repairs can be costly. Sometimes the repairs are not worth fixing and it’s actually more affordable to purchase a new oven. Fortunately, a new oven that is energy efficient can actually end up saving you money in the long run.
