It's that time of year again when we look forward to what the future holds. Will 2017 be the year that finally brings us an oven that does everything from prepping to presenting our meals? Or possibly a dryer that also folds the clothes? Sure that all may sound crazy but so did a countertop that charges your smart devices or a fridge you can talk to (and it talks back!) and yet it's all happening today. Right now we focus our attention on fresh trends for this upcoming year. The same trends that brought us warm metals, integrated spaces, open shelves, and the "social kitchen" is now bringing us fresh colors, new materials, and new ways to make it work together. 2017Cork Cork is making a comeback as a natural, sustainable material in the home. Designers are recognizing cork's versatility and how well it pairs beautifully with other materials, such as glass, metal, wood, and ceramics. Bring cork into the kitchen through glass jugs and carafes, walls, floors, lighting pendants, tables, and even chairs. Pantone The official Pantone of 2017 is the fresh, zesty-yellow-green shade Greenery. An omnipresent hue, Greenery represents nature's neutral and adds a touch of revitalization in the kitchen. One simple way to incorporate this stylish color in the kitchen is through accent pieces. Ceramic dutch ovens, curvy vases, display dishes, candles, or even bring the color straight from the outdoors with some fresh foliage.pantone Sophisticated Hues The paint company, Behr, recently released their color predictions that will define 2017. They dubbed these colors Confident, Composed, and Comfortable. Confident includes dusky blues, spicy reds, and lime greens aimed towards the creative type. The Composed palette involves earthy greens and taupes for the traditionalists that keep a contemporary space. And finally, Comfortable is a palette of pastels and muted shades of light pink, light yellow, and light blue for the introvert.duskyblue Black & White Also called the "tuxedo kitchen", black and white kitchens are timeless and the most popular color pair this coming year. Both neutral and sophisticated, black and white kitchens create the perfect backdrop for any accent color so your decor choices are endless.blackwhite Automation Alexa, Geneva, Siri... These names represent voice commands that allow you to control aspects of your home from the comfort of your couch. Automation is only getting bigger in the kitchen, from ovens that text you and refrigerators that tell you what groceries to pick up. The "Jetson" future is here! geneva Mixed Metals From door knobs to light fixtures, homeowners used to have to match every piece of metal in the kitchen to create cohesion. Instead of feeling forced to match everything, create a uniform look with metals that work together to complement your space. Oil-brushed bronze with chrome, matte black with brushed nickel, gold with steel, there's many different ways to create a unique look that are systematic. Light & Bright This year will be all about lighter and brighter hues and color options that illuminate and open up spaces. But don't paint over those rich dark wood cabinets just yet! While vibrant, more cheery colors will be "on trend" this year, we don't believe dark woods and paint colors are necessarily out.bright1-- Remember, kitchen trends come and go so it's always best to choose timeless designs and styles that reflect your home's architecture and location. A mediterranean kitchen normally found in New Mexico may not be best suited in a cap cod home in East Hampton.
