This year Thermador celebrates 100 years of providing real innovations to the American kitchen. Founded in 1916, Thermador originally created built-in appliances such as space heaters and air coolers, but soon found its passion for innovation and high-end performance when it began manufacturing electrical appliances for the kitchen.
The American kitchen looked much different 100 years ago than it does today, without all the TVs, computers, or even central air conditioning. Thermador is credited for reshaping the kitchen design industry, starting with its first campaign tagline "Seven Leagues Ahead" to signify how its always ahead of the industry.
In the 1900s, Thermador introduced the world to many of its "firsts," including the first ever wall oven and cooktop, stainless steel finish, pro range for residential use, warming drawer, self-cleaning oven, smooth cooktop, speed cooking oven, retractable pop up downdraft ventilation system, sealed gas burner, and extralow burner.
Entering into the 21st century, the kitchen began to evolve into the central hub of activity with more people partaking in the cooking experience. The modern cook wants their kitchens designed specifically around their own personal style of cooking. Thermador has made it their focus to empower culinary enthusiasts to be their best by offering them iconic lines of cooking, refrigeration, and ventilation products. These recent breakthroughs include the patented Star® Burner, the first convection warming drawer, the Freedom® Induction Cooktop, the Freedom® Collection, the Sensor Dome, and so much more.
Today Thermador offers a selection of cooking appliances in two different design styles, the Professional® Series and the Masterpiece® Series. It also offers an incredible variety of highly customizable Culinary Preservation Centers so cooks can choose which cooking appliances match their distinct cooking style and which preservation configuration suits their specific entertaining style.
