Downdraft: Wolf Vs. Jenn Air

Posted on Feb 7th, 2021

Downdraft ventilation provides a discreet way to clean the air from odors, smoke, and steam. Sitting flush with the countertops in front of the range or cooktop, downdraft hoods smoothly elevate and retract at the click of a button to be accessible the moment you need it. With a high-powered motor and quiet operation, the downdraft remains near the cooktop surface to swiftly remove cooking contaminants. By remaining hidden when not in use, the integrated downdraft ventilation provides a non-obstructed view between the kitchen and the rest of the home. Since downdraft hoods are still a newer technology designed for high-end kitchens, only a handful of appliance manufacturers make them, with JennAir and Wolf at the forefront. So which one is better? Here we break down each one.

JennAir Downdrafts
The JennAir Euro-Style telescoping downdraft delivers a minimal design and powerful performance right at the cooking surface. The downdraft features a centrifugal blower motor design so it can operate up to 600 CFM to effectively remove cooking contaminants. For maximum effectiveness, it extends 14 inches from the countertop to efficiently capture smoke, odors, and steam while you cook. From searing steaks to simmering your favorite sauce, you can choose from the four different settings for optimum performance and energy efficiency for your unique creation. It features an automatic shut-off that turns the blower off once it retracts. At only 3 1/4" by 10", the slim exterior ventilation system allows ductwork to extend through an outer wall or the roof of your home. Plus the filter is dishwasher safe so it’s super easy to keep clean and functioning at its highest performance. You can find this vent in 30-inch and 36-inch widths and a stainless steel finish to pair perfectly with your existing cooktop.

Wolf Downdrafts
The Wolf downdraft ventilation matches the heavy-gauge stainless steel look of Sub-Zero, Wolf and Cove appliances. Featured in 3 different widths, this sleek downdraft delivers up to 1200 CFM to powerfully whisk away smoke, odor, and steam, which is twice as powerful as its JennAir counterpart. Similar to JennAir, this downdraft also rises 14-inches from the countertop to efficiently capture cooking contaminants. Depending on your cooking style, you can choose from internal, in-line, or remote blower options. Just like JennAir, the WOlf downdraft includes an automatic shut-off feature that turns the blower off once it retracts to give you peace of mind. It also features a remote control for added convenience that functions from up to 9 feet away. The Wolf downdraft comes in 30-, 36-, and 45-inch widths to pair with your existing cooktop, from small to large. With rigorous testing, Wolf products are designed to last a minimum of 20 years and are tested before shipping.
