How To Two-Tone

If you're looking to add an eye-catching design touch to your kitchen, you may want to consider two-toned cabinets. This kitchen design has recently become popular due to its ability to add visual interest, contrast, depth, and break up overly monotone palettes. While this is a popular trend now, a well-designed two-tone kitchen will never look dated. Use the following two-tone kitchen design options as inspiration for your own kitchen.
Focal Point The most popular way to use this design is by making one area the focal point. This is usually created by painting the kitchen island a different color or finish than the other cabinetry. No only does it prevent the island from blending in with rest of the cabinetry, it can pull tones from the hardware, backsplash, and other areas of the kitchen.

Top/Bottom Choosing a lighter color on top and a darker color on bottom helps ground an airy space. We have found this option is especially beneficial for families with small children (who happen to be attached to dirty little hands). The opposite, a darker color on top, helps pull the ceiling down for a cozier feeling.
Interspersed It's possible to break up monotone color palette by painting a selection of cabinets interspersed. It also helps bring attention to a certain area in the kitchen if desired.
Mix Textures One way to create a two-toned kitchen other than pairing paint colors is by mixing up finishes. You can pair wood grain with paint, acrylic with matte, and so on to create an appealing textural interplay.
