What is the Advantage of a Drawer Dishwasher?

Posted on July 1st, 2022

Today’s conventional dishwashers have one door that swings open with racks that glide open to be accessible. This design mirrors the original dishwasher when dishwashers were first introduced to the residential market in. At the time, dishwashers were actually small appliances that sat on the countertop like a bread bin and mirrored the design of today’s dishwasher. Just like a bread bin, you would open a single door to expose the contents and then simply roll open the wire drawers that held the dishes. This design worked fine for a small appliance that made dishes accessible at arm level.

Once homemakers realized they needed more dishes cleaned at once and it would have to be a large appliance, instead of rethinking the design, they kept the design the same and just made it a larger version. However, one brand, in particular, felt it was time to finally redesign the dishwasher.

The DishDrawer® Dishwasher

Fisher & Paykel is a company out of New Zealand that manufactures high-end appliances. The brand prides itself in research and innovation, delivering solutions to what they dub “the social kitchen” - the belief that we spend more social time in the kitchen than ever before. While they craft beautiful ranges and built-in refrigerators, Fisher & Paykel is best known for their single and double Integrated DishDrawer® Dishwasher.

People Live Out Of Drawers

The DishDrawer® Dishwasher took the original design of the dishwasher and turned it into one or two drawers. Just like a bedroom dresser, closet organizers, and the now-popular kitchen drawers, people tend to live out of drawers. Even the original design of the dishwasher echoes this truth by placing dishes in wire drawers, just without the same door configuration.

Ergonomically Designed

Unlike conventional dishwashers that require you to bend down and reach into a dishwasher, the DishDrawer® Dishwasher is ergonomically designed to place dishes at arm’s reach, requiring less bending over and back strain. It also allows you to run one machine at a time, for a true half-load.

Stylish & Configurable

Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer® Dishwashers are both stylish and configurable to perfectly match your kitchen. Choose from three styles; contemporary for a timeless aesthetic of stainless steel, professional style for a robust and bold look, and integrated to blend seamlessly with your kitchen materiality. Fisher & Paykel delivers both a single and double-door design to be endlessly configurable in your space. You can put a double DishDrawer® Dishwasher near your main sink, a single near your prep sink, and a single in your outdoor kitchen space.
