Which Dishwasher Is Best: Bosch or KitchenAid?

Posted on May 20th, 2021

When it comes to dishwashers, the top names that come to mind are KitchenAid and Bosch. These two manufacturers create some of the best dishwashing appliances on the market and have remained at the top despite solid competition. If you are currently shopping for a dishwasher, more than likely your choice will come down to one of these two brands. So which one is the best of the best? We compare and review these brands to help you make the best decision.

KitchenAid held the top position in dishwashers until Bosch came along. When Bosch recognized the issue with dishwasher noise and decided to develop technologies to make them practically silent, it was able to slowly edge past KitchenAid in reliability and performance. However, KitchenAid still holds up to its reputation with its remarkable features.

Features
Bosch offers models in 5 different classes; Ascenta/100, 300, 500, 800, and Benchmark. Top features include Wi-Fi connectivity, Crystal Dry, water softener, custom finishes, and the lowest silence rating. KitchenAid also delivers various models from budget to high-end that may not be as clearly categorized by series but by price and feature, from plastic tubs to high-end touches. Its features include ProScrub™ jets, triple filter system, third rack, bottle wash jets, ProWash, and ProDry.

Qiuetness
As far as quiet performance is concerned, Bosch and KitchenAid are very competitive in delivering the lowest dBAs. However, Bosch still holds the quietest dishwasher at a low 38dBA while KitchenAid has just a 39dBA. Bosch is so quiet, it has to beam a light on the floor to let you know that it’s running a cycle. With that said, the difference between 38 and 39 dBAs is fairly minimal and it is likely you wouldn’t notice 1 dBA.

Washing Performance
Both KitchenAid and Bosch score high in the washing performance category. They both have similar wash-cycles and options to ensure your dishes come out sparkling clean. However, where KitchenAid pulls ahead is with its high-load capacity and filtration system. You can wash up to 15 place settings in one load, providing more dish-space than what the average family uses in a day. KitchenAId also uses a triple filter system for removing particles from the wash water so your dishes get washed with clean water. To level the playing field, Bosch has a sophisticated water softener to reduce water deposits so your dishes come out sparkling clean.

Drying Performance
When it comes to drying performance, Bosch easily beats KitchenAid thanks to its two new drying options; the CrystalDry and AutoAirDry. Bosch's zeolite-based CrystalDry system increases the temperature inside the dishwasher without using any extra energy. The AutoAirDry opens the dishwasher automatically to let fresh air in for enhanced drying. While KitchenAid has excellent drying performance as well thanks to the ProDry system that features a fan and recessed heating element. But Bosch still wins in this category, nothing compares to Bosch’s drying.
