Comparing Two Unitized Stackable Laundry Pairs

Maybe your laundry room is in a basement next to your water heater or squeezed into a closet somewhere in the house. Or maybe it’s just a smaller room that could use some creative space-saving solutions. Stacked laundry pairs are a great option for those smaller, tighter spots in your home. Since many people don’t actually utilize the air space above their washer or dryer, stacking these appliances allows you to turn unused space into functional space. GE and Whirlpool both offer models that are designed for the convenience of stacked laundry just for you.

But first, what makes these units different than just purchasing an after-market stacking kit for a front load washer and dryer? The main thing is where the knobs are located. If you choose to stack a front-load washer on top of a front-load dryer, viewing and adjusting the knobs can become difficult. Additionally, buying separate front load washers and dryers tend to be more pricey than the unitized units.

Check Your Burners

The Whirlpool WET4024HW features a 1.6 cubic foot washer capacity and a 3.4 cubic foot dryer capacity. It features 6 wash cycles which can be controlled right on the washer’s top. One unique feature to this unit is the EasyView™ glass lid to easily look at your items while they wash. The washer does not have an agitator and instead uses an impeller at the bottom that drives clothes from the outer rim to the center to give clothes a thorough and gentle clean with the impeller. The Smooth Wave Stainless Steel Wash Basket helps prevent fabrics from snagging and gently guides clothes throughout the cycle. The dryer has just one knob and a button to control the 4 different cycles. It features the AutoDry™ Drying System Help to prevent overdrying by sensing when clothes have reached the right moisture content and stop the cycle.

The GE GUD24ESSMWW features a larger capacity overall with 2.3 cubic foot washer and 4.4 cubic foot electric dryer. The washer features 11 wash cycles and 6 wash and rinse temperatures to handle all types of stains and fabrics. Another fantastic feature is auto-load sensing which automatically measures the load size and adds just the right amount of water for each unique load. The washer and dryer baskets are both stainless steel to prevent snagging. While this unitized washer and dryer doesn’t have the glass lid, it does offer more features and a larger capacity for about the same price as the Whirlpool.
