Most homes and apartments come with smaller kitchens designed for just one cook. Having a small kitchen isn’t so bad, though - you just have to get creative with the space that you do have. Check out these tips on how to maximize on space inside your kitchen.
Smart Cupboard Storage
Daily routine becomes a breeze when everything has a place and is easy to access. However, many lower cupboards are deep and difficult to reach into, especially those pesky corners. Make the most of your cupboards with some smart storage solutions. This can include a pull-out trash bin that makes it easier to take out the trash, drawers in place of lower cabinets so your items can actually come to you without you digging into the dark abyss, or a lazy susan to turn corner space into functional storage.
Become A Minimalist
It can be challenging in this day and age to be a minimalist when there are so many different gadgets and items you would love to have, whether it’s a cappuccino maker, a new stand mixer in your favorite color, or a casserole dish in shape and size. Unfortunately, a smaller kitchen may not be able to efficiently store these items and can make your kitchen less functional on a daily level. It may be necessary to purge your items and decide which should stay and which should go. If it’s an item you use every day, it may be best to store it on your countertops. But if it’s something you use only occasionally, it may be time to toss it in the giveaway pile or store it somewhere else
Expand Your View
A small kitchen can feel less cramped when you have certain elements in place that expand your view. For example, if you have a kitchen that shows into your dining room, opt for a range that has front controls instead of top controls that obstruct your view into the next room. Alternatively, you can choose a downdraft ventilation system that rises up when you need it and goes down out of sight when you don’t. Another great way to expand your view is to opt for open shelves or glass doors on select cabinets that show the true size of your space.
Use Your Walls
Any open wall space in your kitchen can be a place to expand on storage. You can use hooks to hang pots & pans, aprons, spices, and cleaning items. You can also use this space to hang a shelf to hold extra dishware, bulk ingredients, and other supplies.
Work Upwards
Many kitchens have a space between the upper cabinets and the ceiling. While some people like to hang plates and decorations up here, we suggest using this space as extra storage for large dishware, slow cookers, or any other extra items you don’t use every day.
