Many homeowners are torn between choosing countertop materials. With so many options such as granite, solid surface, quartz, cement, laminate, tiles, pennies (whaaat?), and so on, it's no surprise the choice is a tough one. Which one is better than the other? That depends on your lifestyle in the home. Each countertop material has its own advantages whether it be affordability, durability, or style and design. Today we're gonna about one of our favorite countertop materials that is full of possibilities and impressive features: DuPont™ Corian® Solid Surfaces!

White Corian Countertop

Let's start off with some background information. Corian® is composed of acrylic polymer and alumina trihydrate, a material derived from bauxite ore. Simple enough, right? In other words, really smart chemists in a really awesome lab developed this product as a kitchen and bath material, though now days it's manufactured in factories and is found anywhere from homes to hospitals. You can check out this 5-minute video to see the process (it's actually pretty amazing)!

Made

As a countertop, Corian® has many advantages that make it an excellent option for your kitchen. If appearance is a main factor for you, you'll be happy to know this material comes in over 100 different hues, tones, and colors for every kitchen design (check them out here). Plus you can keep them looking good as new since scratches and scuffs are easily buffed out!

DuPont Colors

We all know how messy kitchens can get, especially if you have young children. If cleanliness is your main concern, solid surfaces are nonporous so you can simply wipe away bacteria and stains. Easy peasy!

How To Clean Corian® Solid Surfaces

Another advantage to Corian® is its ability to be carved and routed into any shape. Sinks are designed for "seamless integration, creating the illusion of a single flowing solid surface." Not to mention any edge profile is also possible.

DuPont™ does recommend using a heat pad when placing high-heat pots and pans onto Corian® counter tops since this solid surface is not heat-resistant above 212ºF. Even if this type of damage occurs, in most cases it can be repaired. Below demonstrates the repair Corian® burned badly by an unsupervised candle. So let's review. Tons of colors to choose from, easily repairable, simple to clean, seamless design... What else? Oh yeah, it also happens to be beautiful!
